âNow those who were scattered went about preaching the wordâ Acts 8:4.
Two men were fishing on a Sunday morning and hadnât caught anything when a torrential downpour started. One said, âI think Godâs trying to tell us that we shouldâve been in church this morning.â The other replied, âI couldnât have gone to church anyway. My wifeâs sick!â
What would stop you from attending church? What circumstance would have to happen to you to keep you from sharing the gospel?
For most of us the answer is very little. Like the man looking for the excuse to miss and go fishing instead, 21st Century Christians make it part of our character to NOT live out our life in Christ, and bringing up Jesus in a conversation is the rare exception.
Not so for 1st Century believers. Is it the quality of the salvation Jesus has gained for us? No, His sacrifice was made âonce for allâ (Hebrews 9:26). Is it the persecution faced today? No, though difficult in any age, what many of us face today is not as bad as Saul âravaging the church.â
But those early Christians had a âresolve mindsetâ that no matter what happened to them that it wasnât going to stop them from preaching the wordâEVER (Acts 5:40-42). You too?
