What would stop you?

“Now those who were scattered went about preaching the word” Acts 8:4.

Two men were fishing on a Sunday morning and hadn’t caught anything when a torrential downpour started. One said, “I think God’s trying to tell us that we should’ve been in church this morning.” The other replied, “I couldn’t have gone to church anyway. My wife’s sick!”

What would stop you from attending church? What circumstance would have to happen to you to keep you from sharing the gospel?

For most of us the answer is very little. Like the man looking for the excuse to miss and go fishing instead, 21st Century Christians make it part of our character to NOT live out our life in Christ, and bringing up Jesus in a conversation is the rare exception.

Not so for 1st Century believers. Is it the quality of the salvation Jesus has gained for us? No, His sacrifice was made “once for all” (Hebrews 9:26). Is it the persecution faced today? No, though difficult in any age, what many of us face today is not as bad as Saul “ravaging the church.”

But those early Christians had a ‘resolve mindset’ that no matter what happened to them that it wasn’t going to stop them from preaching the word—EVER (Acts 5:40-42). You too?
