Unable to create a single thing

“May the glory of the LORD endure forever; may the LORD rejoice in his works” Psalm 104:31.

Just this morning I found my watch, an amazing device that was still on the exact time despite being missing for a couple of months. Not once did I believe that it had spontaneously evolved in the front pocket of my church bag.

I use a small jar with disassembled digital watch parts in it to prove this very point. Handing it to one I’m studying with, I ask him to shake it until it comes together into a working device once more until it has the right time, which it will obviously never do. Design demands a Designer, and in that jar is a little booklet about the watch that says ‘Made in China.’

Touted as a commentary on Genesis 1, this psalm pulls back the curtain a bit to let us see, not how God made all, but with the wondrous power with which the Designer designed all. It starts and ends like the previous psalm with a reminder to the psalmist (or the reader) to truly “bless the LORD” with all of his (or our) being. And being one of His works with little to no glory of our own and unable to create a single thing but only form from already created elements, we want His glory to endure forever as He rejoices.
