The newest of new beginnings

ā€œSo Noah went out, and his sons and his wife and his sons’ wives with him. Every beast, every creeping thing, and every bird, everything that moves on the earth, went out by families from the ark,ā€ Genesis 8:18-19.

It was the newest of new beginnings. With the rain and great fountains of the deep bursting forth for forty days and water that covered the tops of the highest mountains receding for about a year, the entire world that Noah had known was completely reshaped.

At this exact juncture in history, eight people exited the vessel of their salvation to walk in new life. During the previous year, they had trusted in God for their survival, and He had faithfully provided all they needed for life and godliness.

But now everything was new; would they trust Him for every next step they would take? Would they have the ā€˜adventure mindset’ that is needed to live or strive in life and not withdraw in fear?

Isn’t this the same as what we each must do when we die to sin and self in the watery grave of baptism and rise to walk in new life (Romans 6:3-23)? Everything we have known and who we are has been put to death … and we must live and strive forward in this new life, trusting Him in this adventure.
