At that time the disciples came to Jesus saying, “Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” Matthew 18.1.
Men aspire to greatness. They seek means and structures that will catapult them above others. Jesus created one thing, the church, in which greatness is dealt a death blow.
MORE: Greatness comes at a cost to to the welfare and integrity of others, v. 6ff. It is the essence of competition, not cooperation. Humility seeks eternal life for self and others, vv. 8-9.
A condition of entering the Kingdom of heaven is turning around, vv. 2-5. Thinking must be changed. Focus must be redirected. Small is great. Jesus is Lord.
