What does it mean?

Then the people said to me, “Will you not tell us what these things you are doing mean for us?” Ezekiel 24.19.

The prophet’s wife died, and Yahweh forbade him from showing signs of mourning. Ezekiel spoke of this to the people before it happened. Now they want to know the meaning of everything he did. He responded with God’s answer.

When much is said about the interpretation of the Bible, I often affirm that the Bible is the clear interpretation of God’s acts.

This does not mean we should not study and correctly understand the Scriptures (we’ve published several book to help others understand them), but rather that the Bible is God’s revelation of his plan of salvation. It is the explanation of the meaning of the Lord’s actions.

It is not open to various and contradictory interpretations by humans. It holds a specific and correct meaning. Time and again in the history of salvation, God repeats himself, saying the same things, but man continues to twist his words.

Peter says that “the ignorant and unstable twist [the Scriptures] to their own destruction” 2 Peter 3.16. Many sincere and unsuspecting people believe their twisted interpretations. If only they would read the whole Bible for themselves and let it speak for God! Or, better, hear God speaking through it, let God explain himself.

Accept the Word of God as the definitive answer about the great plan to save us. And use it to explain to others what Christ did on the cross and how we should receive his grace through faith and obedience.
