Do you need to obey Jesus and enter into Christ for the forgiveness of your sins? Are you hesitating because you’re unsure if you can remain faithful and please God every day?
There’s something you need to know that, if you take it to heart, will make all the difference and motivate you to decide. This truth is found in 2 Peter 1.3:
“His divine power has bestowed on us everything necessary for life and godliness through the rich knowledge of the one who called us by his own glory and excellence” (NET).
The gospel is complete; nothing is lacking. God’s power has ensured its fulfillment in Christ. He provides everything needed for everyone, including you, to live a life that pleases and glorifies him.
Here are four things we need that God has already made available:
1. Knowledge
What is God’s will? Why did He create me? What is my biggest problem? How do I solve it? What happens after death? What must I do to be saved? What is salvation?
God has placed a chain of revelation and information in the Scriptures so we can know everything essential. Christ’s teaching is complete and found only in the Bible. It tells the story of a God who speaks to humanity and, through Jesus, reveals his entire plan.
“The one who has ears had better listen!” Mark 4.23 NET.
Read Deuteronomy 29.29, 2 Timothy 3.15-17, and Hebrews 1.1-4.
2. Power
Can I change my life? Can I break free from sins that control me? Am I able to please God and do His will? Yes!
In God, you can find the strength to: (1) decide to follow Jesus; (2) resolve to abandon sin and leave the wrong path; (3) confess Jesus to everyone, now and forever; (4) be immersed in water for the forgiveness of sins; (5) live faithfully in a holy and upright way before the Lord.
Through prayer, fellowship with the family of faith, and God’s Word, the Lord converts, transforms, equips, and protects. His power is limitless, able to do far more than we can imagine.
“I pray that you may have the power to comprehend, with all the saints, what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and thus to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, so that you may be filled up to all the fullness of God” Ephesians 1.18-19.
Read Ephesians 3.20-21 and 1 Peter 1.3-6.
3. Love
We were made to receive God’s love and become loving people. How do I receive it? How do I become that person? Can I let go of resentment, bitterness, hatred, and selfishness to live in reconciliation? Can I love as Jesus loved me? Yes!
Jesus sets the example, His Spirit dwells in us, and His Word equips us—love is the new reality of God’s Kingdom and the fruit of the Spirit in those who follow Jesus.
“God is love” 1 John 4.8, 16.
Read Ephesians 5.1-2 and Galatians 5.22-23.
4. Suffering
Why must I face difficulties? If God is good and powerful, shouldn’t he end trials and suffering? Is it an exaggeration to say we need suffering? No!
Christ had to suffer, and we, with him, must also suffer, in order to carry forward the saving message. Our suffering should be accepted with joy and submission.
“For it has been granted to you not only to believe in Christ but also to suffer for him” Philippians 1.29.
Read Matthew 10, Hebrews 12, and 1 Peter 4.
With these four essentials, you’ll have an excellent start and a glorious finish as a follower of Christ. Embrace them to become a Christian today, beginning your faith journey to the end.
