David reveals two simple, but very important, facts about the mercy and justice of God in Psalm 51.
“Have mercy upon me, O God, according to Your lovingkindness; according to the multitude of Your tender mercies, blot out my transgressions. Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. For I acknowledge my transgressions, and my sin is always before me. Against You, You only, have I sinned, and done this evil in Your sight—that You may be found just when You speak, and blameless when You judge.” (Psalm 51:1-4 NKJV)
Fact #1 – God’s mercy is not something we deserve, and if we think we do, we won’t get it!
Fact #2 – God’s justice is something we deserve, and if we think we don’t, we will get it!
Whether or not you know Eugene is not important; what is important is whether or not you know the God who knows him, you, and everyone who came before us and who will come after us (John 17:3; Hebrews 8:7-13).
