Matthew’s gospel is full of this teaching

On Saturday, the 30th, I will teach in Taubaté “THE PRACTICE OF GOD’S WORD IN THE GOSPEL OF MATTHEW.” I have already taught a course on the practice of God’s word, but this material based on Matthew is new.

Taubaté is an hour down the highway from us. We established the congregation there some years ago.

The approach of this work based on Matthew offers several advantages:

  1. It helps us better appreciate this highly important book of the New Testament.
  2. Each text within the Gospel of Matthew reinforces the others. The collection of texts becomes a powerful testimony to the theme of obedience. Thus, we can see the cumulative effect of this teaching.
  3. Matthew leaves no doubts and provides no room for ignorance or disobedience. The New Testament starts strong with this emphasis. God fulfills his promises made long ago. He expects us to be faithful to his will as well.

The first module analyzes the Gospel of Matthew in general, to orient us within the book. We will have an exercise about which verse would best serve as the key text of the book.

We will also look at an easy-to-remember outline of the book, five purposes of the author, and his teaching emphases.

See if you can identify this phrase from Jesus, the sense of it given by a modern version: “we must carry out all that God requires.” Where does this text appear? What was the moment in Christ’s life?

This will be one of the 12 texts that, God and time permitting, we will analyze during the session, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

In the course, participants will need to think deeply, work hard, take thorough notes, and prepare to teach what they hear.

After all, those who learn must also teach, right?
