Who’s telling the truth?

QUESTION: “It’s confusing. Who’s telling the truth?”

ANSWER: Exactly what the Devil does – “gaslighting” so people are without a solid grasp of complete truth. Since “the truth shall make you free” (John 8:32), we should always “buy the truth and sell it not” (Proverbs 23:23).

(1) Jesus said:

“You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it. “But because I tell the truth, you do not believe Me.” (John 8:44- 45).

Jesus said “the devil” lies because “there is no truth in him.” Should we believe what Jesus said about the devil or what the devil says about Jesus? John described Jesus’ death (John 19:31-34) and added, “And he who has seen has testified, and his testimony is true; and he knows that he is telling the truth, so that you may believe” (John 19:35). Scriptures written hundreds of years before verified what John truly saw (John 19:36 “Psalm 34:20”; John 19:37 “Zechariah 12:10”). The eye-witnessed facts were detailed centuries before they happened!

(2) In Antioch of Pisidia, Paul preached in a synagogue of the Jews the Old Testament message that led to Jesus Christ, and His death, burial, and resurrection.

“On the next Sabbath almost the whole city came together to hear the word of God. But when the Jews saw the multitudes, they were filled with envy; and contradicting and blaspheming, they opposed the things spoken by Paul” (Acts 13:44-45).

Who taught the truth? Since the Jews were motivated by “envy” (or selfish ambition), they could only, with contradiction and hurtful expressions, oppose what Paul spoke. But Paul had shown from the Old Testament, that for hundreds of years, while God made and led the Israelites to their present identity and land, then He “raised up Jesus” as His Son. Jesus had a greater message and miraculous expression than Moses. Paul’s message was upheld by God’s testimony in the past, Jesus’ presence on earth, and Paul’s accurate presentation of the truth. Paul preached historical and biblical facts about Jesus, but the Jews could only verbally oppose them.

Contradicting and blaspheming is not proving a contrary case! Only true facts should be believed!
