A Merest Click

A short poem-prayer about time and eternity.

Above all time, O God, on high,
You watch the days and years go by,
A merest click on calendar and clock;
For humans, on the door a knock.

Barely has this life a start –
Time is heavy on my heart,
For there you placed eternity –
From certain death it cannot flee.

How marvelous to be redeemed!
The joy of hope into Heaven streamed
To bring to earth what I cannot see,
The Present become opportunity.

Make Christ my road and carriage, too,
The Spirit the mover of my shoe;
For saints the circling sun stands still,
The Now of God for doing your will.
