What you crave

Featured Post Image - What you crave

"He who eats this bread will live forever…" (John 6:58)

Have you ever gone to the fridge because you are having a craving, but you can’t put your finger on it? By the dim light of the refrigerator we stare mindlessly, hoping something will jump out at us. We open the freezer. Not there. We look in the cabinet. Same old junk. We might eventually nibble on something to make the craving go away. It doesn’t work. Those cravings probably weren’t hunger, anyway.

Just like our body "craves," so does the inner man, the soul. And while many things are employed or utilized to silence or fulfill the craving, there is really only one thing that will do it: Jesus.

When the Israelite slaves left Egypt God provided bread (manna, Ex. 16:4) and quail (Ex. 16:12,13) for them to eat. This “bread from heaven” (Ex. 16:4) saved their lives. This represented the true Bread from heaven that God sent down for all, Jesus Christ, as He said:

My Father gives you the true bread from heaven. For the bread of God is He who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world…I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst…Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and are dead. This is the bread which comes down from heaven, that one may eat of it and not die. I am the living bread which came down from heaven” (John 6:32-33,35,49-50, NKJV).

The Israelites had to eat the bread God sent them to fill their bellies, and we must “eat” the Bread God sent to us to fill our souls. Jesus said, “unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have no life in you. Whoever eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life” (John 6:53-54).

The Israelites had never seen anything like manna; and no one has ever seen anyone like Jesus. To find Jesus, is to find everything – to find life.

Relationship with God is what you crave.

Jesus is the only way to satisfy it – (Rick).
