The Christian's Logo
By Tim Hall (July 4, 2008)
If you've not yet seen it, you will. There are few regions of our nation in which Wal-Mart is not a presence. The giant retailer has made its mark by advertising lower prices on items virtually everyone needs.
A Ripple from the Past
By Paul Goddard (July 4, 2008)
Think back to your early childhood, and listen. Splash! Do you remember that sound of that pebble hitting the water?Do you remember that ripple extending from beyond the point where it landed, creating larger wavelets until they too soon disappeared?
Barton Warren Stone (1)
By Michael D. (Mike) Greene (July 3, 2008)
"We will, that this body die, be dissolved, and sink into union with the Body of Christ at large; for there is but one Body, and one Spirit, even as we are called in one hope of our calling."
The Dry Years
By Mike Benson (July 3, 2008)
In their book, WHY ME?, Pesach Krauss and Morrie Goldfisher tell a story about two men who cut down an aged hardwood. The woodcutter's observations about the inner rings within the old tree are compelling:
The Preacher and the Praetorian Guard
By Stan Mitchell (July 2, 2008)
The captive made them a captive audience.“As a result, it has become clear throughout the whole palace guard and to everyone else that I am in chains for Christ” (Philippians 1:13).
Your Life Story
By Barry Newton (July 2, 2008)
Their lives are set in concrete. The stories about how Enoch, Noah, Abraham, Joseph and Moses lived are unchangeable. In spite of adversity and the grind of time, they remained faithful. Meanwhile our spiritual marathon continues. Our conclusion has not yet been written. The trajectory of our lives can still be bent.
God, Prepare Me
By Richard Mansel, assistant editor (July 1, 2008)
The Bible is a story of sin, redemption and salvation. Jesus comes into the world so we all could have the chance of an eternal home. Tragically, Scripture also tells the story of how the human race has, with rare exception, ignored or taken God for granted (Matthew 7:13-14).
Flight into the Sun
By J. Randal Matheny (June 30, 2008)
In Greek mythology, Icarus, taking flight with wings made by his father, wanted to fly close to the sun. When he flew too high, however, the sun melted the wax that held the feathers. Feathers flew, and Icarus didn't. The ambitious son plunged to his death.
God with Us
By J. Randal Matheny (June 29, 2008)
At his birth, Jesus was announced by the angel as Emmanuel, "God with us," quoting Isaiah 7:14. With his dying breath, our Lord cried in agony, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?", his excruciating question directly from Psalm 22:1.
Spiritual Contractors
By Michael Brooks (June 28, 2008)
Traveling through many different parts of the world has exposed me to a wide variety of methods of work and living. One area where there is much more choice than I might have earlier supposed is in that of building materials.
There For Them
By Tim Hall (June 27, 2008)
Though my calendar for the day was bulging with responsibilities, I decided to drive out to the airport. A group from our congregation was preparing to leave for a week of mission work and I wanted to be there. While there I didn't do anything noteworthy.
Who Nailed Jesus to the Cross?
By Mike Benson (June 26, 2008)
Back in 2004, Mel Gibson produced The Passion of the Christ. Ironically, he didn't star in the film. He did, however, have a small, yet significant, cameo in the actual movie. Don't recall seeing him? Watch it carefully again.
So Who Are You?
By Stan Mitchell (June 25, 2008)
Our attitude comes, not from what happens to us, but from who we are. “Now I want you to know, brothers, that what has happened to me has really served to advance the gospel” (Philippians 1:12).
Commodore 64 Or Latest Technology?
By Barry Newton (June 25, 2008)
The question was a simple one. Which one would you prefer? Because the desirable answer was so obvious, instinct warned, "somehow this must be a trick question." Sitting on the table side by side were two computers in pristine form, albeit the Commodore 64 belonged more appropriately in a museum. When it comes to worship, the author of Hebrews confronts us with a similar choice.
God, Save Me From Persecution
By Richard Mansel, assistant editor (June 24, 2008)
We fight our sins, the persecutions of others, the general distress of life and the omnipresent temptations that lie in our paths. All of these can prove fatal if we do not inoculate ourselves against them. Faith is the answer (Romans 10:9-10,17).
