Everything you need to know about Heaven

“where I am, there you will be also” (John 14:2).

Heaven is an obscure word. As much as we’d like to know about heaven, there will always be (as far as this life is concerned) more that we don’t know.

Come to think about it, in a certain sense, I don’t know much about anything.

  • I don’t know much about gravity.
  • I don’t know much about my weed eater.
  • I don’t know much about polyurethane.
  • I don’t know much about my television.
  • I don’t know much about my furnace.
  • I don’t know much about logging.
  • I don’t know much about insulation.
  • I don’t know much about asphalt.
  • I don’t know much about fabric.

These words are pretty obscure to me too. Though I might use these things (directly or indirectly) at any given time, I know precious little about any of them. But I don’t need to really know about any of them to make good use of them. I’m just thankful that someone knows about them. I put my trust in them.

Why do I trust that heaven is real and that its good? Because I know so much about it? Hardly. I know precious little about heaven. People have asked me, or I have asked myself questions about heaven for the better part of 40 years. My view or vision of heaven hasn’t changed much during that time. I still don’t get it. I still have more questions than answers.

But my confidence and trust in it has grown immensely because my trust in Jesus has grown immensely.

I’m not the expert on heaven, after all; he is.

I trust him.

He said, “I am going there to prepare a place for each of you” (John 14:2, CEV).

That’s all about heaven that I need to know.
