Be still and be ashamed of sinful cities

The Lord gave Tyre and Sidon great things, which the cities used for evil things, and He had Isaiah prophesy against the cities, saying,

Be still, you inhabitants of the coastland,
You merchants of Sidon,
Whom those who cross the sea have filled.
And on great waters the grain of Shihor,
The harvest of the River, is her revenue;
And she is a marketplace for the nations.
Be ashamed, O Sidon;
For the sea has spoken,
The strength of the sea, saying,
“I do not labor, nor bring forth children;
Neither do I rear young men,
Nor bring up virgins.”
When the report reaches Egypt,
They also will be in agony at the report of Tyre.
(Isaiah 23.2–5)

When Tyre and Sidon would fall, it would affect others, such as Egypt. The only response could be to be still and be ashamed.

You must love your city, that is why you live there, yet, the presence of sin must also grieve you. First, be sure that you do not contribute to that sin, and then let your light shine that others may see the Lord living in you, and perhaps you shall lengthen the life of your city.
