God-confidence, not self-confidence

Society says that those with no confidence just need to believe in themselves, but have you ever noticed that the Bible nowhere gives that advice or instruction?

For those with no confidence, or who believe that something cannot be done, the Bible always directs them to God. Consider the case of Gideon. The Lord told Gideon to save Israel from the Midianites, but he did not believe he could do it, nevertheless, the Lord continued to work with Gideon and said,

“Surely I will be with you, and you shall defeat the Midianites as one man” (Judges 6:16).

The Lord told Gideon that he would be victorious because the Lord would be with Gideon. The key to his confidence was not believing in himself, but believing that the Lord was with him. Read that verse again, and this time emphasize the words, “will,” and “shall,” see how it reads.
