The importance of belief

Do you believe everything the Holy Spirit says in the Scriptures? Do you believe that every command God issued in the Bible leads to successful living?

To know just how important your belief in these matters is, consider what Jesus told the chief priests and elders, who rejected the preaching of John the Baptist and would not be baptized by him,
Jesus said to them,

“Assuredly, I say to you that tax collectors and harlots enter the kingdom of God before you. For John came to you in the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him; but tax collectors and harlots believed him; and when you saw it, you did not afterward relent and believe him” (Matthew 21:31–32).

Why would the chief priests and elders not enter the kingdom of God, but tax collectors and harlots would? The former did not believe John, and the latter did, because John preached righteousness, and the Jewish leaders could not recognize it.

Let us beware lest we get so caught up in ourselves that we miss the kingdom of God.
