While Benjamin became a royal tribe, it only lasted forty years, but the failures of the first king took the royal status away from the tribe, and Judah became the royal tribe, just as Jacob had prophesied,
“The scepter shall not depart from Judah,
Nor a lawgiver from between his feet,
Until Shiloh comes;
And to Him shall be the obedience of the people.
Binding his donkey to the vine,
And his donkey’s colt to the choice vine,
He washed his garments in wine,
And his clothes in the blood of grapes.
His eyes are darker than wine,
And his teeth whiter than milk.”
Jacob not only prophesied that Judah would be the royal tribe, but that the messianic king would come from the tribe of Judah, and it happened just as the Lord had revealed to Jacob.
