Peter taught us by the Spirit that we should,
“add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness, to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love” (2 Peter 1:5–7).
To explain that we have to add those things, Peter revealed that adding such things will make our Christian lives fruitful, but if we lack them, we have a problem, and Peter identified the problem,
“For he who lacks these things is shortsighted, even to blindness, and has forgotten that he was cleansed from his old sins” (2 Peter 1:9).
Does your life as a Christian lack fruitfulness? Do you also lack faith, virtue, knowledge, self-control, perseverance, godliness, brotherly kindness, and love?
If you lack those things, Peter said that the reason you lack them, is that you have forgotten what the Lord did for you by forgiving you of your sins.
Remember the evil things you have done, and let that motivate you to live the way the One who forgave you wants you to live.
