The rebuke of the wise versus the song of fools

Which helps us? The rebuke of the wise or the song of fools? Solomon by the Holy Spirit said,

It is better to hear the rebuke of the wise
Than for a man to hear the song of fools.
For like the crackling of thorns under a pot,
So is the laughter of the fool.
This also is vanity.
(Ecclesiastes 7:5-6)

How much heat do crackling thorns in a fire create for bringing water to a boil? They make much sound initially with large flames, but then just as quickly they go away, and your water never did boil. That is what the song of fools is like.
The rebuke of the wise hurts initially, but it produces long range benefits.
