Treatment of church workers

Paul told the Corinthian Church,

“And if Timothy comes, see that he may be with you without fear; for he does the work of the Lord, as I also do. Therefore let no one despise him. But send him on his journey in peace, that he may come to me; for I am waiting for him with the brethren” (1 Corinthians 16:10-11).

Some people do not believe that preachers have real jobs, or that preachers are not capable of other work, so the church in kindness hires him.
However, Paul said of himself and Timothy that they did the work of the Lord, and so the brethren should not despise Timothy, but that they should take care of him so that he does not have to fear, and he could go on his way in peace.
How do you treat workers of the Lord?
