Communion came from the Lord

As Paul prepared to explain (again, because he had done it when among the Corinthians) the Lord’s Supper, the apostle began by saying,

“For I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you…” (1 Corinthians 11:23).

The eating of the Lord’s Supper, also known as communion, came not from the apostles, but the Lord used them to explain how He wants to be remembered. We do not remember Him in the Supper only, but this is one way, and in particular we remember that God gave Jesus a body, and Jesus gave that body back to God in a violent sacrifice.
