Killing the innocent

Paul said of the Jewish leaders,

“And though they found no cause for death in Him, they asked Pilate that He should be put to death” (Acts 13:28).

They knew that Jesus had not committed anything worthy of death, nevertheless, they put political pressure upon Pilate to condemn Jesus to death.
How did those men sleep that night? They may have slept well, believing that they had dispensed with a fraud and a troublemaker, and that they had finally stopped the swelling movement that followed Him.
When they died, they learned the truth, and now they have the awful prospect of facing the Lord Jesus Himself at the Judgment.
I hope they repented before they died, even as we need to make sure that we always walk in truth.
