They are God’s people

When Nehemiah, in the capitol of Persia, heard of the distress of Jerusalem, he offered a beautiful prayer to God, and toward the end of it, the man said,

“Now these are Your servants and Your people, whom You have redeemed by Your great power, and by Your strong hand” (Nehemiah 1:10).

It was not about Nehemiah, except that he also was one of God’s people, but Nehemiah did not solely pray for himself, except, as we shall see in next year’s devotional on Nehemiah 1:11, that he offered himself to help the Jews back in Jerusalem.

Likewise, let us pray for the church, because she belongs to God, and let us offer ourselves in whatever way God chooses.
