The enemies of the Jews opposed them for rebuilding the temple of God in Jerusalem, and even had the Persian government make a search in the historical records to see what kind of religion and government had been in Jerusalem, and that it was not a good idea to let them rebuild. Sure enough, they found government proof that the Jews had been rebellious, so the king of Persia ordered the work stopped.
Sometime later, the Jews wanted another search made to demonstrate that an earlier Persian king had authorized the rebuilding of the temple, and the current king, Darius, found that such an order had been given, and so he commanded that the work resume and that the government back the effort, including providing the Jews whatever they needed.
King Darius concluded his letter with this,
“And may the God who causes His name to dwell there destroy any king or people who put their hand to alter it, or to destroy this house of God which is in Jerusalem. I Darius issue a decree; let it be done diligently” (Ezra 6:12).
If we follow our God and His Blessed Son Jesus Christ faithfully, and if we know the laws of our land, and if we act as the salt of the earth and the light of the world, we shall be able to silence our enemies as the Jews did, and even have the government back us, or at least endorse us. Are you following Jesus?
