Jesus had just taught the necessity of forgiving a brother, even if he sins against us seven times in a day. When I read that, it impressed upon me that I am not yet what I need to be, because I would find it hard to keep forgiving like that, yet, I know that my heavenly Father has forgiven me endlessly, even in one day. Evidently, the apostles must have thought something similar, because in response to that teaching, they said to Him,
“Increase our faith.” Then He said, “If you have faith as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, ‘Be pulled up by the roots and be planted in the sea,’ and it would obey you” (Luke 17:6).
They—and we—can do whatever the Lord requires, if we have faith. With faith, we can do the seemingly impossible. Therefore, increase your faith by seeing the unlimited power of faith.
