David sent men to receive provisions from Nabal, a man whose sheep and workers David had guarded, but Nabal answered the messengers of David roughly,
“So David’s young men turned on their heels and went back; and they came and told him all these words” (1 Samuel 25:12).
They did not argue with Nabal, although they had a case for doing so. Rather they reported to David and let him deal with the matter.
David’s messengers did not take the matter personally, but gave the matter to their leader and let him handle it.
