The Bible says,
“And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, ‘These are the names of the men who shall divide the land among you as an inheritance: Eleazar the priest and Joshua the son of Nun’” (Numbers 34:16-17).
The Lord had already stated the boundaries, but they would have to survey the land and find the locations that He had given. This would be a huge job, and He put two men in charge of it. By saying these things, the Lord was showing them that the years of wandering were about over, and they would soon enter the Land of Canaan, the land flowing with milk and honey.
No doubt they were ready after wandering in the wilderness for forty years.
Did they learn from all their complaining and unbelief in the wilderness? What would they do in the new land? They learned about as well as we learn. Do you learn from your sins?
