“Bus-sized asteroid gives Earth close shave Friday!” Such headlines were seen all over the world as an asteroid of about 37 feet (11 meters) wide passed within 36,750 miles (59,044 kilometers) of Earth. This space rock passed Earth at a distance of about 0.17 times that between the Earth and the moon (240,000 miles/386,000 km).
Astronomers with NASA’s Asteroid Watch said in a Twitter message, “It wouldn’t get through our atmosphere intact even if it dared to try”.
Truly, in the great expanse of space one could say that “It Just Missed!” From time to time such headlines grace the pages of publications and the internet. What if one larger did make it through the atmosphere?
As densely populated as the majority of the world has become, if an asteroid struck the Earth it would be devastating. Millions of people could be killed, the weather might get weirder than it is now, famine, starvation and who knows what could occur. Yet, such a thing happening is not likely.
The reality is that about 250,000 – 300,000 people die from natural causes each day according to wiki answers./1
This is not taking into account the individuals who die from accidents, natural disasters, etc. The Hebrew writer tells us by inspiration, “And inasmuch as it is appointed for men to die once and after this comes judgment” (Hebrews 9:27).
Unless Jesus returns in a person’s lifetime they will face death. What is sad is that the majority of people who die are not prepared for eternity. As the Hebrew writer tells us, “after this comes the judgment”. Every person will face the compensation they chose in this life, either to spend an eternity in Heaven or eternity in the Abyss with Satan.
It is imperative that each person reflect on their own life and make sure that they are satisfied with their choice. Where do you want to spend eternity?(2 Peter 3:9-18).
Are you ready to make the transition into eternity? Are you sure?
If you are hit by an asteroid will the insurance policy you presently have be adequate to cover space junk? The only plan that will guarantee Heaven is the one given by our Lord. If we can help you in finding and understanding God’s plan please allow us to do so at your convenience.
