A play on words

Judah had given itself over to sin, and would pay the price for it, as the Lord said through Micah,

“Therefore you shall give presents to Moresheth Gath; the houses of Achzib shall be a lie to the kings of Israel. I will yet bring an heir to you, O inhabitant of Mareshah; the glory of Israel shall come to Adullam” (Micah 1:14-15).

Moresheth was the hometown of Micah (Micah 1:1), and someone would give gifts to Moresheth, like people giving gifts to a bride as she departs, for the Lord would send the inhabitants of Moresheth away into captivity.

Achzib means “lie” and it would live up to its name to the kings of Israel so that they could not rely upon the Achzib.

Mareshah means “inheritance,” and someone would come and inherit that city.

Adullam had a cave where David once took refuge, and so the glory of Israel would go to Adullam which means, “refuge.”

All of this because the Lord had enough of Judah’s sins and it was time for the nation to pay up.

What is the name of your town and what does it mean? Do everything you can to make sure that you are the salt of your town and the light of it that it might not suffer at the hands of the Lord.
