The confidence of God’s people

In Ezekiel 29, the prophet spoke against Pharaoh and Egypt, revealing what the Lord would do to them.

Then the Lord said by the prophet,

“No longer shall it be the confidence of the house of Israel, but will remind them of their iniquity when they turned to follow them. Then they shall know that I am the Lord GOD” (Ezekiel 29:16).

Israel had made Egypt their confidence rather than Yahweh God! However, by making Egypt among the lowest of the kingdoms (Ezekiel 29:15), Israel would see that they could not put their confidence in Egypt, and Israel should have learned not to put her confidence in any other nation, or idol, or anything else at all, except for the Creator of the heavens and the earth.

Can the church, God’s people today, learn the same thing? Do we put our confidence exclusively in Him and everything pertaining to Him, such as His Son Jesus Christ, and the Scriptures, or do we put confidence in our respective nations, man’s psychology, and countless other things we have invented?

Who or what is your confidence?
