We may keep much of God’s word, but if we fail in even one point, we have become guilty of breaking His law, as it is written,
“For whoever shall keep the whole law, and yet stumble in one point, he is guilty of all. For He who said, ‘Do not commit adultery,’ also said, ‘Do not murder.’ Now if you do not commit adultery, but you do murder, you have become a transgressor of the law” (James 2:10-11).
We can do well and brag that we have not done certain things, but if we violate God’s will on another matter, then we are still known as lawbreakers.
Therefore, we cannot become arrogant and fail to show mercy to others, James argued in the context, but we should remember our own faults and show mercy, for if we do, then we shall receive mercy from the Lord.
