Why we have a new covenant

Jesus is the Mediator of a better covenant, which we call the New Testament, because,

“if that first covenant had been faultless, then no place would have been sought for a second” (Hebrews 8:7).

The writer then goes on to say that it was not so much the previous covenant, but man’s inability to keep it that was the problem.

However, the world needed to learn through the example of Israel that we fail on our own, that we cannot keep God’s Law perfectly, but that we need His grace and mercy.
