Sometimes we have to serve our enemy

Jeremiah spoke a word to the Jews that they did not want to hear, and he himself may not have liked the message, but it was from the Lord, and so the prophet spoke,

“Do not listen to them; serve the king of Babylon, and live! Why should this city be laid waste?” (Jeremiah 27:17).

False prophets were announcing that the items the king of Babylon had taken from the Lord’s temple would be restored shortly, but the Lord revealed that was a lie and that the people should not listen to those prophets.

Rather the Lord wanted the Jews to serve Babylon, but if they did not, then He would lay waste their city, including the temple.

It is a hard truth, but sometimes we have to serve our enemies.
