Sennacherib, king of Assyria, challenged Judah, saying that their God could not deliver them from the hand of the king of Assyria. Listen to his blasphemy against our God,
“Look! You have heard what the kings of Assyria have done to all lands by utterly destroying them; and shall you be delivered? Have the gods of the nations delivered those whom my fathers have destroyed, Gozan and Haran and Rezeph, and the people of Eden who were in Telassar? Where is the king of Hamath, the king of Arpad, and the king of the city of Sepharvaim, Hena, and Ivah?” (Isaiah 37:11-13).
The king of Assyria made at least two serious mistakes. First, he exalted himself against the God of Israel.
Second the king compared the God of Israel with the idols of foreign nations.
Yahweh God then went into action and humbled the Assyrian king, showing the world who is the true and living God.
The king of Judah prayed to God when the king of Assyria made his threats, and God answered the prayer.
Let us do the same as the forces of secularism and Islam grow increasingly bold in the world.
