Some suffering we cannot avoid, some we can. The kind that we can avoid, why repeat the behavior that brought on the suffering? That was the question Isaiah asked his nation.
The prophet asked and then explained, “Why should you be stricken again? You will revolt more and more. The whole head is sick, and the whole heart faints. From the sole of the foot even to the head, there is no soundness in it, but wounds and bruises and putrefying sores; they have not been closed or bound up, or soothed with ointment” (Isaiah 1:5-6).
Have you suffered for your sin? Why repeat the sin, knowing that it could bring on suffering again? If we do not repent of our sin, we will truly suffer after this life is over.
Let us give ourselves to repentance.
