It is hard for me to describe the relationship that a preacher has with a congregation, but I do like what Paul said about himself and the Corinthian congregation,
“Great is my boldness of speech toward you, great is my boasting on your behalf. I am filled with comfort. I am exceedingly joyful in all our tribulation” (2 Corinthians 7:4).
See, on the one hand, he could speak boldly to them, rebuking them, or whatever, but then he would brag to others about the congregation.
They filled him with comfort, and when he experienced tribulation, he could remember the Corinthian brethren and find great joy in his heart.
