Paul in First Corinthians said that the church needed to withdraw themselves from a fornicating member, and the brethren did it. However, their grief over the man’s sin grew and grew until it was about to destroy the congregation.
“But if anyone has caused grief, he has not grieved me, but all of you to some extent—not to be too severe” (2 Corinthians 2:5).
There is a place for grief, but there is also a place for rejoicing when a person repents, and the church needed to rejoice, because of the repentance of the member.
When someone turns his or her life around, let us not be bitter or grief-filled still, but show that what we want more than anything is for people to turn.
