The Consequences of Guilt

Ezra confessed to God, “Since the days of our fathers to this day we have been very guilty, and for our iniquities we, our kings, and our priests have been delivered into the hand of the kings of the lands, to the sword, to captivity, to plunder, and to humiliation, as it is this day” (Ezra 9:7).
Judah had continued their relentless slide into sin, and the consequences for their impenitence was that God handed them over to foreign kings who made the children of God suffer horribly.
Sooner or later, our sins will catch up to us, if we do not repent.
