Fighting to Restore Unity

King Rehoboam made a foolish decision, and most of Israel forsook him because of it. Then he tried this, “Now when Rehoboam came to Jerusalem, he assembled from the house of Judah and Benjamin one hundred and eighty thousand chosen men who were warriors, to fight against Israel, that he might restore the kingdom to Rehoboam” (Second Chronicles 11:1).
Sometimes that works; sometimes it does not. In this case, the division was of the Lord, and He sent a prophet to stop the war.
What do we learn from this? We should always seek the Lord’s will in everything we propose to do. Sometimes He will allow us to do what we want, and sometimes He will not.
