A Humble Confession

The prodigal son saw how sinful he had been and returned home. Before he arrived his father saw him in the distance and ran to him, and the son said to his loving father, “Father, I have sinned against heaven and in your sight, and am no longer worthy to be called your son” (Luke 15:21).
The son had more to say, but the overjoyed father had heard enough and interrupted his son, not speaking to him though, but to his servants who had followed him to greet his son, and told them to get ready for a celebration.
In the confession, the son did not blame anyone, nor did he offer a psychological or biological excuse for his sinful living, but took full responsibility for it, and confessed that he was no longer worthy to be called his father’s son.
