The Need for Alliances

Why do nations form alliances with one another? I believe watching five men from the tribe of Dan spy out a certain place will show why national alliances are necessary, “So the five men departed and went to Laish. They saw the people who were there, how they dwelt safely, in the manner of the Sidonians, quiet and secure. There were no rulers in the land who might put them to shame for anything. They were far from the Sidonians, and they had no ties with anyone” (Judges 18:7).
Laish seemed to have the perfect setting as they lived in quiet and secure conditions, but that led them to think that they did not need anyone else. This made them an easy target for the tribe of Dan.
True, whether they had alliances or not, because of their sin, the Lord wanted them removed from the land, but we can still see the need for alliances.
This is true for individuals as well that we will do better in life with friends.
