The Nearness of Judgment

John the Baptizer warned the multitudes going to him that they needed to bring forth fruit that showed they had repented of their sins, warning, “And even now the ax is laid to the root of the trees. Therefore every tree which does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire” (Luke 3:9).
He pictured God with an ax placing it at the very bottom of the tree, taking aim as to where He wanted to start chopping down the tree, for the next movement of God would be to draw back the ax and then swing away at the tree of Israel.
That day arrived about four decades later when God sent the Romans against Jerusalem, but as John continued to speak he warned of another Day of Judgment yet to arrive, but we should all prepare for it.
