Some Do Not Like It When God's People Grow

The family of Jacob began to grow in the land of Egypt, and a new king did not like that, “And he said to his people, ‘Look, the people of the children of Israel are more and mightier than we; come, let us deal shrewdly with them, lest they multiply, and it happen, in the event of war, that they also join our enemies and fight against us, and so go up out of the land'” (Exodus 1:9-10).
He used that as a pretext for ordering the deaths of newborn male Israelites, and later for enslaving the Israelites.
You would think that the king of Egypt would have rejoiced that the family of the savior of Egypt grew, because the Israelites did nothing to show themselves a threat. However, as often occurs in politics when people say if that happens, then this will happen, so the king of Egypt created hysteria against God’s people.
Let us not be like Pharaoh and jump to conclusions.
