Read of the Mercy of God in the Life of David

The disciples of Jesus ate grain on the Sabbath Day, and His enemies criticized Him for it, “But He said to them, ‘Have you not read what David did when he was hungry, he and those who were with him: how he entered the house of God and ate the showbread which was not lawful for him to eat, nor for those who were with him, but only for the priests?'” (Matthew 12:3-4).
Jesus expected His enemies to know the written word of God, and that they would have seen the mercy of God displayed in the life of David. When he sinned for his own pleasure, God rebuked him, but when David stumbled, God had compassion.
Can we learn to show mercy?
