Deceptive Words

Herod learned from the wise men that the Christ had been born, and after determining from them when the star appeared that led the wise men to Israel and it would lead them further, he told them, “Go and search carefully for the young Child, and when you have found Him, bring back word to me, that I may come and worship Him also” (Matthew 2:7-8).
If you had been the wise men, would you not have believed that Herod truly wanted to worship the newborn King? Nothing in the words of Herod indicated anything wrong, and the wise men may not have known what kind of man he was, since they came from another country.
Thankfully God warned the wise men not to return to Herod, but I think this teaches us a lesson in praying to God always, asking Him about people and situations so that we will always do the right thing.
