Remember Scripture to Prevent Discouragement

The initial recipients of the Book of Hebrews became discouraged in their fight against sin. Therefore, the writer reminded them of something, “And you have forgotten the exhortation which speaks to you as to sons: ‘My son, do not despise the chastening of the LORD, nor be discouraged when you are rebuked by Him; for whom the LORD loves He chastens, and scourges every son whom He receives” (Hebrews 12:5-6).
Friends, they had forgotten the teaching of the Old Testament and that allowed them to become discouraged, whereas if they had kept familiar with that first part of the Bible, they would not have considered falling away, but would have remained strong, enabling them to encourage others instead of needing it.
