Self-Rescue

Job rebuked his friends sharply in Job 13:1-12, calling their sayings, “proverbs of ashes.” Evidently one of them started to interrupt Job, but he stopped his friend and kept talking (Job 13:13). Then he asked his friends,
“Why do I take my flesh in my teeth,
And put my life in my hands?”
(Job 13:14)
Job believed that the saving of his life belonged in his hands, not the hands of useless friends. Job questioned how his life had gotten to that point.
