Who was Hathach? He was the man who knew the secret between Esther and her cousin Mordecai. Mordecai had told Esther not to reveal her identity as a Jew, but Hathach acted as the go-between for Mordecai and Esther.
When Esther learned that her cousin was in sackcloth at the king’s gate, she became disturbed because such was not allowed. She sent a message to him through Hathach and so if he did not know they were cousins and that she was a Jew, he would soon learn.
Hathach spoke the words of Esther to Mordecai and he in turn sent a message to her, “So Hathach returned and told Esther the words of Mordecai” (Esther 4:5-9).
Hathach did his job well and never revealed the relationship between the cousins, nor did he reveal Esther’s identity.
