The Importance of the Singers

After Nehemiah rebuilt the wall around Jerusalem, other things needed to be done, such as repopulating Jerusalem, making a covenant to follow the Lord, and so on. The Jews also had to celebrate the completion of the wall. That is Nehemiah 12.
A major part of that celebration was singing. However, the singers were needed frequently, not just for the dedication celebration. Therefore, they moved close to the city, “And the sons of the singers gathered together from the countryside around Jerusalem, from the villages of the Netophathites, from the house of Gilgal, and from the fields of Geba and Azmaveth; for the singers had built themselves villages all around Jerusalem” (Nehemiah 12:28-29).
Please do not see singing as time-filler during the worship services. Singing is an integral part of worship. Therefore, song leaders, you render a valuable service to the church. Take your job seriously. Do not prepare at the last minute. Nor be content with your current abilities and knowledge of music. Grow as a singer that you might cause the congregation to grow as singers.
