Confessing for a Group

As Nehemiah prayed to God about Jerusalem, the man said, “We have acted very corruptly against You, and have not kept the commandments, the statutes, nor the ordinances which You commanded Your servant Moses” (Nehemiah 1:7).
Nehemiah put himself among his brethren, that they had all sinned. He did not merely acknowledge his own sin and act as though he was not concerned with what the nation had done.
Yes, confess to God your sins, but think of your nation’s sins, or the sins of your congregation. God may use you to bless the group for whom you pray, as He did Nehemiah.
